Lehman Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania
In 1774 Certified Bedford adjoining Plymouth and Kingston Townships was laid out by Douglas Davidson. Lehman Township, formerly Certified Bedford, was founded in 1829. Lehman Township was named in honor of Dr. William Lehman of Philadelphia. One of the first documented settlers in 1801 was Nehemiah Ide and Jeremiah Brown, William Fuller in 1802 and his brother Isaac two years after. William Newman, in 1806; John Whiteman, in 1813; J.I. Bogardus and Ogen Mosley, in 1814; Minor Fuller and Fayette Allen, in 1819; Thomas Major, in 1821;and Oliver Mekeel, in 1823. The first frame house was built by William Fuller in about 1802. The first school house was built in 1810. The C.B. Major home built in 1859 is looking great and now has the 5th generation of the Major descendents living there. Lehman Township is not only a beautiful place to live, it has a heart, a history, and some of the warmest people living here. For more history see Lehman
